Afro-Diasporic Genetic Histories

By combining genomic methods with community-engaged approaches, we are investigating the histories and experiences of Afro-descendant populations across Latin America. Our current research brings together descendant community members, archaeologists and geneticists to reconstruct the lives of African and Afro-descendant peoples who lived and worked at a colonial hacienda in 18th century coastal Peru.

We are also involved in collaborative research investigating admixture, ancestry and identity among Afro-Caribbean populations in Puerto Rico and the Lesser Antilles.
